Indoor Fetch and Dog Tricks help your dog stay healthy
1
,

Are you taking good care of your dog this winter? Don't let cold weather prevent you from exercising your dog. A vigorous game of tug-o-war, or indoor fetch can be great exercise. When I felt Kera needed a good physical and mental challenge, I would play fetch with her in a narrow hallway in my apartment.

To make the game more challenging, I put upside-down laundry baskets along the hall every few feet. They acted like hurdles and really got her panting as she ran back and forth after her toys!

You can also teach your dog fun indoor tricks like jumping up on a chair to turn out the light, putting away her toys in a bin, or jumping in the air to get a toy (on command!).

If you need a few extra tips on training your dog to do tricks - or understanding the general psychological principles behind teaching your dog a new behavior, I've just written a new article on my website about teaching dog tricks that you might want to check out.

Have fun keeping your dog healthy and active indoors. Not only will it be good for him, but it will be fun for you. A well-exercised dog also has fewer behavioral problems. If you're having trouble with your dog's destructive behavior, make sure that you're giving him plenty of exercise for his breed type, in addition to using the proper canine communication fundamentals to train him well.

Take care and have fun!
