Mom, I'm Bored
June 05, 2009

"Mom, I'm bored!"

That one little phrase conjures up a lifetime of summer memories for me...

  • Sticky fingers and creamcicles,
  • bare feet on hot pavement,
  • cold water stealing my breath jumping into the pool,
  • basketball camp,
  • bon fires and marshmallow roasts...

I could go on and on.

It's hard to believe that with so much to do, we could ever run out of fun things to do over the summer. With a dog, the possibilities are even more extensive!

Fun Things To Do With Your Dog In Summer

  1. Go hit baseballs, tennis balls or golf balls and have your dog retrieve them
  2. Hike through the shady woods
  3. Turn on the hose and play in the sprinkler
  4. Enjoy outdoor concerts and picnics
  5. Watch a little league game
  6. Time yourself running around the track at school (race your dog!)
  7. Bake dog biscuits at home
  8. Teach your dog a new trick

If that doesn't keep you and your kids busy... you're still not alone! Lots of kids, older kids especially, need to feel challenged and stimulated during their summer breaks.

They don't relish the idea of a summer job mowing lawns, but they want to find ways to make money and still have the flexibility to see their friends and go on family vacations.

Nori Evoy, aged 14, was in the same boat when she and her father decided she would start her own website business about their family's favorite vacation spot in the Caribbean.

Now, you don't have to live in the Caribbean to make this idea work for your family... but you do need to have someone in the family who can research and write about a topic that they're interested in. The research can be done online, or through family experiences. (This would be a great home school project, too).

Building a website business is a great way to teach kids about budgeting their money, sticking to a schedule, writing well, and having success in the "real world." Take a moment to read Nori Evoy's story and see if it inspires you this summer!

Nori's story is on this webpage about half way down. :) Read Nori's Story

With a sparkle in my eye,

Emily

P.S. Nori's story inspired me so much that I built my first profitable website, www.Gifts-for-dog-lovers.com, using the Site Build It system. It's made me money every month since I started hosting google ads!

Read Nori's story (half way down) as well as some other great case studies here.
