Will Fido Cheat Death? - Dog Lovers Digest, Issue #009
October 24, 2005
Hi ,

If cats have nine lives, what about dogs? Are they blessed with 4 or 5, or just the standard one like the rest of us?

I am saddened to share that a dear cousin of mine - a healthy woman in her late 50's - was recently diagnosed with cancer after going to the doctor for a stomachache. The news from the hospital just gets worse the more they investigate.

She has a very aggressive form of cancer and will need to be on chemo therapy for the rest of her life. Ouch. That's a hard pill to swallow, and unfortunately, the same bad news could just as easily be coming to your pet from the mouth of your veterinarian on your dog's next appointment.

The good news is that these days vets have borrowed from the many advances in human medicine and have a wide variety of drugs, surgical procedures and other interventions to help treat your special friend after the most dire of diagnoses. The bad news is that these procedures can be very expensive! That's why vet insurance is becoming more widely used.

You'd feel terrible if you had to let your dog suffer because you couldn't afford proper medical treatment for him. That's the problem that pet health insurance helps you avoid. If you are worried about the rising costs of medical care for your dog or cat, you need to read more about your insurance options now.

I was visiting a friend in Denver last weekend and she had an adorable Shih Tzu named Charlie. However, we spent a lot of time racing Charlie to pick up spilled food off the floor - two 1-year-old twins were visiting her and there was plenty of it - because Charlie had serious food allergies and other stomach sensitivities. He has already visited the animal hospital (that's not vet, it's hospital) twice in his short one-and-a-half years and my friend was too embarrassed to tell me how much she had spent on his medical care. The good news is that he was saved each time, the bad news is that her husband may not be willing to pay up again!

Just because your dog is young, doesn't mean he won't benefit from a pet health insurance plan. Research your options now. Your dog is counting on you!

Sincerely,

Emily Cressey
