Gift Ideas for Dog-Loving Kids!
Kids who love their family dogs will be thrilled with gifts that allow them to have even more fun
with their canine companions! Dog toys for a fun game of fetch, bubbles for the dog to jump and bite
at, or maybe a laser pointer that the dog can chase through the house all make good fun gifts for children
who enjoy playing with their dogs. Depending on the age and maturity of the child, a dog-training book
might also be appropriate. If the child can teach the dog tricks such as "Shake," "Play Dead," or "Speak,"
the child will feel pride in showing off his special dog to friends and family, and the child will be
reinforcing his dominant relationship over the dog, which will help prevent dominant or aggressive behavior
from the dog toward your child or other children.
Note of Warning: Stay away from "Tug-of-War" toys. Most dogs love to play Tug-of-War games, and part of the reason for
that is it helps to establish dominance. The person or dog who emerges from the game in posession of the
toy has earned dominant "top dog" status. Small children may not be able to consistently win at games
of tug-of-war with a strong or persistant dog. Best to avoid setting the child up for failure, or
creating confusion in the dog's mind about whether he is dominant over the child.
Gift Ideas for Dog-Loving Men!
I've always thought men were hard to shop for, perhaps that's just because my dad was that way. However,
I think one of the most important things to keep in mind when buying gifts for men (or anyone) is to
take note of their existing interests and try to tie a fun, dog-themed gift into his existing hobby
activities.
If he likes to golf, maybe he'd enjoy a dog-head cover for his woods or golf balls featuring a picture
of his favorite dog breed. If he likes to hunt, maybe his
retriever could benefit from a warm safety vest or boots, or would enjoy playing with duck-replica
dummies. If the gentleman enjoys Nascar or Football, maybe his friends would think it was hilarious for
Bowser to watch the next game in a Team Sweatshirt, or eat out of a sport-themed dog bowl.
If the guy is a computer type, maybe he'd like a mousepad depicting his favorite breed, so he could talk
about Marco with his co-workers at the office, or what about a dog-themed screensaver? If he reads
there are a number of wonderful inspirational dog books out there, as well as training guides, breed
histories, even dog biscuit cookbooks for the guy with a culinary flair.
The sky's the limit! If you can incorporate two or more interests (such as dogs and another hobby) you
will have succeeded in selecting a very personalized gift - one which has extra meaning because it shows
the person it's selected for that you really know and understand him on a number of levels!
Gift Ideas for Dog-Loving Women!
Women who love dogs are notorious for treating them like little members of the family. When you give
a woman like this a gift for her dog, it goes straight to her heart. There are lots of great gifts
for women who love dogs.
One really nice idea is to get her a special piece of clothing or jewelry
depicting her favorite dog breed. I always love recommending gifts like this because they serve as great
conversation starters, help the woman feel attractice, and remind her of her beloved companion throughout
the day. These days, dog jewelry comes in all styles and price ranges... you can give her a dog charm
for a special charm bracelet, you could go for stylized earrings or a fabulous pin, you can even have
a necklace pendant etched with an exact likeness of her dog, taken from a photograph. There's something
for every budget.
Another truly breath-taking gift idea is to commission a portrait of her pet, to be hung in the home or
office. These days, portrait artists are very skilled at taking images from photographs and transfering
them to canvas, either by hand or computer, and can combine images of different pets and people, incorporating
them all into a beautiful, stunning gift that will be treasured forever.
What about something useful for around the home? A dog-themed picture frame, featuring a great shot
of her and Fuzzy, an umbrella or mug featuring her favorite dogs? What about a flag she can fly off the
front porch, announcing to the neighbors her allegience to her dog?
And, lest I forget, I must point out that for the fashion-minded woman who wants her dog to dress up
to her standards there are a number of fun dog accessories for the busy doggie diva! Designer pet
carriers that look like purses are great for taking small dogs wherever you go. Dog nail polish and
jewelry are just perfect for playing dress-up, and dog clothes and accessories can really make a hit,
especially when your dog is out visiting friends!
For the dog who likes to stay home, designer dog beds and other fashion furniture can really
fill this need!
Gift Ideas for People-Loving Dogs!
Dogs are easy to shop for - they have a few main interests which you can easily cater to and count on
making your dog very happy. Start off by asking yourself
"What does my dog really like to do?" Is it Play? Eat? Sleep? Great! You're off to a super start.
Next, decide what you WANT your dog to do... If he's overweight, maybe you don't want him to eat and sleep
more, you want him to play more! If he's older, maybe you want a comfortable, supportive dog bed
where he can rest his weary bones. If he's super-hyper and loves playing with the kids after school, maybe
a few yummy dog treats are just what he needs to keep his energy up, or to motivate him if you're working
on training!
If the dog likes to go out to meet people, maybe he would love a fancy new collar, or maybe even an
elegant outfit to make him more ravishing when he goes visiting! There's nothing like an adorable
designer dog outfit to make your pup the hit of the party. If he loves attention, he'll quickly
get used to his hat or sunglasses if it means more hugs and kisses!
Hopefully this got you off to a great start, if you're still stumped for ideas, please write to me
and describe the person/dog/event you're shopping for and I'll do my best to give you some pointers!
