A dog bed warmer can help your dog make it through those cold days and nights in an outdoor kennel, unheated garage or basement. If your dog is a warm-climate breed or just used to being indoors, he may not have the thick coat he needs to keep him warm when he is thrust into a colder environment. Keep him cozy with a heating pad or hot toy for his bed.
There are a variety of different types of dog bed warmers on the market, and all can do a wonderful
job of warming your pet if he sleeps in a cold area, or to be used like a therapeutic heating pad to
sooth the joints and aches that come with old age, illness or rigorous activity!
Plug-In Dog Bed Warmers
These are probably the first thing you think of when you think of
a dog bed warmer. This type of electric-operated
dog bed warmer
Microwavable Dog Bed Warmers(I have to admit that I got a people-warmer like this for Christmas last year and I absolutely loved it! Mine was filled with corn and after zapping it in the microwave for 2 minutes it was toasty hot! I could place it around my feet, neck, head -- whatever needed to be warmed up. They were such a hit with my family, that my aunt ended up getting one for everybody!) The nice thing about this type of product is that it does not need to be plugged in, and there is no electricity running through it so if your dog sleeps in a place where there is no electrical outlet, where it is sometimes wet, or where it otherwise might make sense to not use an electric dog bed warmer, this can be a great option. The downside is that you have to manually heat it in the microwave yourself (Two minutes should be plenty... they can get very hot!) and it does not retain heat forever. In my experience they tend to stay hot/warm for about 30-60 minutes, depending on how cold the surrounding environment is. This can be a great way to give a young dog something warm to cuddle up with at night, but to not make him overly hot throughout the night. Once your dog is warmed, he can escape the heat without having to get off of his bed. If you're not sure it's cold enough for him to want an electric bed warmer all night long, this might be a good way to take the edge of so he can get to sleep!
Non-Electric Dog Bed Warmer![]() This would seem to have several advantages. First, it's a great low-maintenance warm-dog-bed option because it does not require any plugging-in, microwaving, etc. This is super when you're at home and just busy with other things, but becomes invaluable if you are travelling, your dog is staying outside, or you are not at home to help him heat his bed. This is also a complete "warm dog bed" rather than just a warming accessory to be used with an existing dog bed.
