Small Dog Collars - The Perfect Fit

Are you and your dog looking for small dog collars that will fit him just right?

This is a smart idea because having an ill-fitting collar can be a real risk for you and your pet. A collar that is too big may slip off his neck at the worst time - like in traffic, or in the presence of an aggressive large dog. A too-big collar could also catch on a bush or fence while out on a walk, or catch the paw of your small dog or his companion, leading to injury.

A collar that is too small will choke your dog, making him itchy and uncomfortable and possibly interfering with his breathing, drinking and eating.

Small dog collars are always a great fit for small toy-size dogs. Most buckle collars are adjustable so you can make sure the fit is snug without being too tight. To test the fit of the collar, slide two fingers between the dog's neck and the collar. You should be able to fit two fingers, but no more than two. Adjust the collar accordingly.

Regardless of the size of your dog, he deserves a collar that fits. Be sure, when using the collar that you don't put too much strain on his neck. If you opt for a choke collar or pinch collar give gentle corrective "pops". The force needed to correct a small dog is much less than the power with which a larger dog would be disciplined. Try to avoid yanking the dog off his feet.

Pay attention to him and find out what level of force gets the message through to him, without being unnecessarily overpowering.
