What to do if you have a male dog inside with a female dog in heat?
by: Anonymous

I have 2 male dogs and 1 female who is currently in heat. What I do is I keep the female inside her cage all day. My 2 male dogs go crazy over her, barking at her and creating noise so what I would do is just let the male dogs stay beside her cage just so to lessen, if not prevent them from barking and making noise. I notice that if my male dogs see the female they do not make so much noise.

If my female dog needs to eliminate, I keep the males inside their cage or on a leash tied on their cage so that they would not follow the female. Basically, I just try to create a border between them as much as possible.

Male Dog Wants To Mate With My Female In Heat
by: Emily

Yes,

What you are describing is perfectly natural and predictable. He is following his biological imperative, and chances are when the female is ready, she will let him mate with her as well.

So, if you don't want a litter of puppies you DEFINITELY need to keep them separated during this time!

If you don't plan on breeding your dogs, I would suggest getting one or both of them neutered, as this will be a recurring problem.

If you want to keep your dogs intact, I would suggest keeping them completely separated during this time.

Crate them if necessary, keep one inside and one outside each day... just do something to keep them as far apart as possible. I would even walk them separately if you don't want a big hassle (and sore shoulder) every time you take them out!

I invite others who have gone through this type of experience to share their comments as well!
